Concerning NFL QBs…the bench press, 40-yard dash and other combine athletic metrics are unimportant compared with to QB-specific metrics. Tom Brady showed us this truth by posting the worst QB combine scores of all time yet being perhaps the greatest QB of all-time. QB specific metrics are football skills/knowledge and arm strength. Scouts expertly spend countless hours analyzing these abilities. Yet one metric has not been quantified until now, that is temperament. It has been guessed at and every year they say, “This guy is a leader, we think.” Every year around draft time I see one player compared to another player by a list of physical metrics as the given justification. Those comparisons couldn’t be more wrong (Read my article on Cordarrelle Patterson and how wrong the NFL combine page is to compare him to Demaryius Thomas http://nflpam.com/2015/11/17/nfl-bust-cordarrelle-patterson/ ). Or they say, “There’s something off about him but we don’t know why” (with this temperament system now we know why). Temperament is a critical QB metric but until now has only been guessed at. Temperament impacts on-field and off-field decision making. You need a QB with the right temperament, not just arm strength. Another way to say it is that a temperament (or personality type) is how a person processes situations. In high school and college players can physically dominate. However at the NFL level physical domination is (generally) removed. Now a QBs temperament and decision making becomes the difference between bust and Super/Pro Bowl.
How it works…I took multiple systems of astrology and combined them together creating 144 temperaments as our standard. Then I applied that standard over the past several years to NFL QBs. What I found was astounding. Only a few of the temperaments had won 50% of all Super Bowls! This NFL QB temperament system gives unprecedented insight into a person such as if the player will handle game/life pressure, quickly read and accurately process information, make quick decisions, will he get along with others in the clubhouse, how best to develop and manage the player, will he execute the offensive system, will he step up when the game is on the line or crack under pressure and much more. Then with this detailed temperament information, the player is checked to see if they match any past or current QBs. Even if past comparisons do not exist we gain extensive insight into this person’s mental processes just based on our temperament matrix. The complexity and detail of a player’s temperament can be scaled from 12 basic types then up to 144 standard types then to over 700 types. I’ve run hundreds of past and present NFL QBs through my system, some are posted on this website, and discovered our systematized temperament analysis is the missing link in NFL scouting. It is a powerful tool. This system can give very deep information, pages of analysis on each incoming QB. Below we will check if Dwayne Haskins matches with past NFL QBs out of about 144 standard temperament types. We will not offer any deep analysis but simply check against past QBs.
Dwayne Haskins – Our standard temperament analysis links Dwayne’s temperament to a past Super Bowl Winning QB: Jeff Hostetler. Matches with other top former or current 175 NFL QBs (by completions): Matt Ryan and Archie Manning.
What this means concerning the mental aspect/temperament of Dwayne Haskins is that he has a temperament which has proven to be successful at the QB position in the NFL. Dwayne should be considered a safe pick. There are a few negative traits to watch for but that’s the not focus of this post.
Warning: be careful of other QBs in the 2019 draft. It is a mixed bag. While some appear to have lots of promise a bunch but will disappoint. One player is tripping our system and it is screaming, “Caution!” He is a 2019 NFL ‘top draft pick’ at QB but has ZERO QB temperament standard matches. This means it’d be safer to trade down and collect draft picks or select the best player available other than him. However if a team is set on drafting this player I’d do some really deep temperament research. While outliers exist, historical precedent does not support this player’s success in the NFL.
Other keys influencing how a temperament is expressed are the person’s faith, upbringing/stability, drugs/alcohol and other factors which should be considered. I haven’t presented any sort of deep analysis on Dwayne which is possible (for a fee) but his future looks promising.
